Description
Tyrosine is one of the 22 amino acids that make up proteins; it belongs to the group of endogenous compounds. Tyrosine is a precursor of important neurotransmitters such as dopamine and noradrenaline, compounds of elementary importance for the correct functioning of the entire organism. Dopamine belongs to the catecholamines, it takes part in emotional processes, muscle coordination and hormone synthesis. Norepinephrine, secreted in response to stressful stimuli, affects the circulatory system (increases heart rate, constricts peripheral vessels, dilates coronary arteries) and energy processes (increases glycogenolysis, lipolysis). Tyrosine is also a precursor of melanin, a pigment found in the dermis and epidermis.
