L-leucine and L-lysine are essential amino acids, the former being branched chain. In addition to being a constituent of protein chains, L-arginine is also a precursor of nitric oxide (NO), a so-called precursor. L-arginine is formed in the human body in a biochemical cycle called the urea cycle.
